Defra is undertaking a new consultation to explore the views of pet owners and animal organisations on how animals, especially puppies, are brought into the country for commercial and non-commercial reasons.

The new consultation, which is being rolled out across England, Wales and Scotland, seeks to lower the age that puppies are brought to the UK, crack-down on ruthless smuggling gangs and understand more about the routes that animal smugglers take.
