Josh Smashes It!

It may seem hard to believe when the sun is beating down, but it wasn't so long ago that the country was besieged with bad weather. But, as the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going and local lad, Josh Merry, is not the type of chap to let a few snowflakes get in his way!

Josh, aged 6 and from the Lutterworth area, has always been a big animal lover. He is also a member of his local Beavers group and, in need of a challenge to earn his next Beavers badge, Josh hit upon the idea of raising funds for Leicester Animal Aid. Josh's idea was to run 26 miles in 26 days which is (more or less) the equivalent of a marathon.

The challenge was largely completed in Josh's school holidays. With the support of Dad Simon, Josh set up a fundraising page on Just Giving and let his friends and family know about his plans.

During the fundraising, Josh and his dad were confronted with some wintry weather including snow and ice. As much of the running was off-road on tracks and in fields, conditions were pretty challenging at times. However, Josh was undeterred and completed his challenge in style wearing an LAA vest and a bobble hat as he crossed the line.

We would like to say a big thank you to Josh (and Dad) for doing such a fabulous job. We hope that you have both warmed up a bit!
