Percy Pig trots off to his forever home

We are so happy to let you all know that sweet boy, Percy Pig, has finally found his forever home.  Ex-racing Greyhound, Percy spent more than 120 days at the Centre with his paws crossed for a new family.

Percy arrived at the Centre in the summer, his racing days over due to a leg injury.  He watched friends find new homes but sadly, he was overlooked probably because he was on long-term pain relief for his leg injury.  He turned three years-old during his stay and everyone made sure he had a day to remember.  Special treats and a birthday cake were made by a member of staff, a birthday party was held, and he went for a special walk off-site with his buddy He-Man.

The surroundings at the Centre were very different to what he had been used to and he was very shy, nervous and withdrawn when he arrived.  The love, patience and kindness of staff helped him to come out of his shell.  He spent one-to one time with members of staff in different environments to help build his confidence.  He loved going for walks and having time in the field with his greyhound friends but did prefer his own company in his kennel. One of his favourite past-times was to collect all the soft toys he could find, one by one, put them in a pile on his bed and then snuggle down with them.

Sadly, he did have a low point during his stay when, due to medical reasons, he had to have his tail amputated.  With lots of TLC he was soon on the road to recovery and was much happier not being in pain from it.

It’s always difficult to say goodbye to longer-stay residents as they become a big part of life at the Centre but we’re so happy that Percy gets to spend Christmas in his new home.  He’s settling in very well and even has his own Instagram account – what a star.  If you’re on insta then go give percypigpooch a follow!  We wish Percy and his new family all the happiness in the world.

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who supports us in any way.  You are the reason why we can take in dogs like Percy, care for them and pay for veterinary care until the pawfect family can be found.  Thanks to you Percy has now got the life he deserves.
