An Important Message from our Chair regarding Coronavirus

Dear Supporters,

Many people have contacted the Centre to enquire about the wellbeing of our animals and staff, and I would like to thank people for their kind interest. I want to assure you that our animals are safe, well-cared for and indeed thriving! Due to the Government rules on staying at home and away from others, we cannot take up the kind offers of help with dog walking and animal care that we have had from our local community. I understand that this must be frustrating for those who feel themselves to be in good health, but we want to do all we can to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. We have put some notes on our website about what people can do to help us from home. You can read them here. Donations can also be made over the phone or via our website here.

At the Centre in Huncote, it’s business as usual to a certain extent. Our animals don’t understand the Coronavirus and they still need food, warm shelter, love, attention and exercise. We have adapted our routines so that staff are practising safe, social distancing, and we have strict cleaning regimes in place.Of course, we are having to do without our loyal, hardworking volunteers which puts a strain on our workload - the place just isn’t the same without them. Our site in Huncote and our shops are closed to visitors. Sadly, we have also had to cancel many of our fundraising events, which is a worry. However, our staff are well, still smiling, and we are confident that our animals will not suffer adverse effects of the virus.

We are continuing to take rehoming enquiries. Anyone who is interested should please telephone the Centre or look at our animals online here and complete the interested parties form in the usual way.

Many supporters will, by now, be self-isolating and/or working from home. We like to think of ourselves as a family at LAA, and, with so many modern methods of communication open to us, there is no reason why we can't stay connected through this difficult period and exchange photographs and messages of encouragement and support. We are all united by our love of animals. These connections make us who we are, and they will help us to get through any difficulties we may be facing, so let's keep them strong.

We’ve started a ‘Sharing is Caring’ campaign. We will be updating our website and social media with interesting content for Members, and other animal lovers, much more often than usual. If you don’t already, please follow us on Face book and Instagram; we would love to see photographs of your pets and hear about how they, at least, may be benefiting from all this extra family time! If social media is not your thing, we would still love to receive any stories or messages from you and your pets through the post or by email ( LAA staff, who are working exceptionally hard, love receiving this kind of correspondence, and I know they would appreciate the boost.

Thank you, as ever, for being a supporter of Leicester Animal Aid. Your support is vitally important to us and is needed now more than ever. Charities have a real challenge on their hands as they try to recoup funds that have been lost from cancelled events and the knock-on economic effects of the virus. We would love to keep you as a supporter.

Please stay safe and keep in touch!
