Chelsea Keeps on Running

LAA supporter and friend Chelsea Read is running her first London Marathon on April 26th and we’re delighted to report that she’s running in support of our animals.

Chelsea popped in to LAA in January to let us know how her training is going. She also found time for a photo opportunity with a couple of boys who know all about running; LAA residents Mars and Pluto.

Obviously, training for a marathon is no mean feat. It involves many evenings of hard work, when most of us have our feet up in front of the TV. We asked Chelsea exactly how she got into running and how she is keeping herself motivated so far. Chelsea says:

“This will be my first marathon but I have completed a half marathon before (the Leicester Half marathon). I first got into running by using the NHS’s couch to 5K app three years ago. It’s a great way of building up. I would really recommend it. Now I go out with a training partner who is doing the London Marathon too. We’re about the same speed so it’s really good to have someone to run with when you don’t feel like going out.”

Chelsea’s day job is working as Personal Assistant to our Ambassador Barrie Stephen, the local hairdressing entrepreneur. Chelsea has been working with Barrie for around 13 years. In addition to their love of business, they also share a passion for animals. Chelsea has 3 dogs of her own, Lady Gaga, Paloma and Elton, two of which are rescue animals. Chelsea explains:

“To do the marathon for a charity like LAA is extra motivation. If ever I don’t feel like going out running, I picture the dogs. Now that I’ve met Mars and Pluto, I can picture their faces too.”
