Turn your unwanted items into cash for LAA

There are many different ways of turning your unwanted items into cash to help support the dogs and cats at the Centre.  Remember, before you head to the tip or put stuff in the bin, that 'one person's trash is another persons' treasure.'

So, if you've not got around to having a declutter, then now is the perfect time to do so and give the things you no longer want or need a new lease of life.  It's good for you, charities and the environment!

Jewellery and banknotes (any country)

We work with an organisation called Recycling for Good Causes who will reuse and recycle jewellery, watches and banknotes, giving the proceeds to us, and saving precious raw materials at the same time.  You can donate:

  • Any jewellery - gold, silver, costume, watches, broken and damaged items, for example odd earrings, snapped chains or items with missing stones.
  • Banknotes - from any country of any age (please do not send coins).

If you have items that you'd like to donate for recycling, pop them in an envelope or jiffy bag (no bigger than A5 in size) and post free of charge by printing out the freepost label here and attaching to your envelope.  We do have some recycling envelopes (A5) at the Centre, so do give us a call if you'd like us to send you one or drop off your items to the Centre and we can get them sent off for you.

If you have more items than will fit into an A5 sized envelope then please call Recycling for Good Causes on 0800 633 5323 or email to find out more.

Used stamps

All kinds of stamps are welcome, on or off paper.  Simply cut or carefully rip the postage stamp from the used envelope, being careful that you don't damage the stamp.  Once you have a collection of them you can either:

  • Drop them off at the Centre in Huncote
  • Pop them in an envelope, making sure you have the correct postage to: Leicester Animal Aid, PO Box 16992, Sutton Coldfield, B73 9YA.

Foreign coins

If you've got any foreign coins and are wondering what to do with them, you can donate them to us!  We'll hold on to them until we get a big pile and then we'll send them off and get cash in return.  It's best to drop them off rather than post, as it can be quite expensive.

Quality branded clothes

If you've had a wardrobe declutter and have some good quality branded clothing then you could turn it into cash for us by sending it off to Thrift+ .  It's simple to do, just request a free bag from them and pop in your pre-loved clothes.  You can drop it off at one of their local collection points or arrange collection from your home (there is a small charge for this). If you click onto the 'Donate' button on their website you can select us to receive the profits of your sales.  Thrfit+ accept good quality High Street shop clothes, such as White Stuff and Joules and designer brands.

Books, CDs, DVDs and games

Some books, CDs, DVDs and games can be worth more than you think.  There are online companies that will trade in your unwanted items for cash.  You can enter the barcode to get an instant value.  At, who are partnered with Virgin Money Giving, you can opt to donate the money straight to LAA.
