Leicester Animal Aid was founded 70 years ago by an animal lover like you. Dorothea Farndon believed in a better life for animals without homes. Her kindness and determination didn't just start a rehoming centre, they created a community of people who believe in compassion and second chances, who protect the vulnerable and who want to shape a kinder world for animals. 

Dorothea showed that this is what philanthropy is truly about - turning your love, hope and values into meaningful change for the causes close to your heart. Through your philanthropy, you can create lasting change and help shape a kinder future for cats and dogs. 

You bring hope and comfort to animals

	You bring hope by being there for dogs like seven-year-old German Shepherd Biggie, who arrived anxious and unsure but built trust and confidence through gentle care and patient reassurance. After six months at the Centre, he is now settled with his new family, exploring the garden, soaking up the sunshine, enjoying loving cuddles and living the happy life he deserves.
	You bring comfort to cats like one-year-old April, who arrived caring for her five tiny kittens. Now that they've found their homes, her own sweet and gentle nature has blossomed with soft purrs and playful paws. She is waiting to be the centre of someone's world.

What does philanthropy look like? 

Every act of philanthropy helps to create a kinder and safer future for animals and also a more gentle and compassionate society for us all. 

Your philanthropy at Leicester Animal Aid can take many forms including:

Your kindness can help us respond to the current highest areas of need. 

• Creating calmer and safer spaces for anxious cats and dogs arriving frightened, overwhelmed and unsure
• Providing essential veterinary care for increasing numbers of animals arriving with complex medical needs 
• Supporting vulnerable people and their pets through the Community Pet Support Scheme, reducing loneliness by keeping companions together
• Keeping the Centre warm, clean, and welcoming so that every animal can rest, recover and feel safe despite rising utility costs 
• Wellbeing support for our staff and volunteers who face the hardest moments of animal welfare with care and compassion
