Tasty Treats for your four-legged friends!

Our residents love a treat or two, especially home-made ones!  We love baking at our Huncote Hound Club activity mornings and seeing the animals enjoying their treats.  Why not have a go at baking some of our favourite recipes?

Our younger supporters may need to ask an adult for some help.

Doggy Biscuits

Your four-legged friend is in for a treat if you make these yummy biscuits for them! The recipe makes quite a few, especially if using a small cutter but they freeze really well.

Ingredients

170g plain cooked chicken breast (cooled). You could use leftover chicken but make sure there are no bones
Half a cup of cooked rice (cooled) we used wild rice *For grain free try adding sweet potato instead and spoon the mixture instead of rolling it out
1 chicken stock pot (no need to add water to it)
2 and a half cups of plain flour
1 egg

Method

Preheat oven to 180 or 160 fan, gas mark 4
Put the chicken, rice and stock pot in a blender and blend until it forms a paste
Put the chicken paste in a bowl and add the flour and egg and mix well.  If it’s not combining together you can add a spot of water
Dust the surface with flour and knead the dough until it’s no longer sticky
Roll out the dough until it's about half an inch thick
Cut out shapes with a cutter – how many you make really depends on the size of cutters you use
Put on a baking sheet lined with baking paper
Bake for 25-30 minutes and allow to cool
Can be frozen – defrost thoroughly before giving as a treat!
