Adopt & Rehome a Cat - Leicester Animal Aid feature image

We run an appointments system where interested parties are invited to meet a particular cat or dog where mutual compatibility has been agreed. Alternatively, visitors are welcome to look around on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 10am to 2pm to view dogs, and 11am to 2pm to view cats.

About Shadow

  • Gentle nature
  • Friendly
  • Only animal in home
  • Can live with older children

Shadow came into our care after his owner was unable to look after him anymore. He can be quite unsure when he first meets someone, but with a little bit of time, he soon comes out of his shell. He can be very vocal and demanding when he wants fuss and will roll around after a few nice head scratches. Despite his age, Shadow is a very bright and active lad and anyone who meets him will find it difficult to believe he is 14 years old. Shadow would benefit from a home with adults and older children. He would need to be kept as the only animal in the home.

Cat care

Until a cat is settled into a new home it is essential that they are not let outside and as a general guide this would be about four weeks. However, this is dependent on the individual cat.
Whilst a cat is confined to indoors you can introduce new toys for them to play with and chase. Cat nip toys can be especially rewarding. A scratch post will hopefully discourage them from choosing your sofa to sharpen their claws! Regular grooming by you will help to cement the bond between cat and new owner and although cats are known to generally be more independent than a dog, they thrive on companionship and interactive play. Even adult cats can be persuaded to practice their stalking and pouncing skills on an old shoelace, or play hide and seek in a cardboard box.
