The adoption process for cats
Step 1. Finding out about you
Tell us about yourself and what you are looking for. This could be a particular cat currently at the Centre, a specific breed, or more general information such as the size or personality of the animal you’d like to adopt.
You can do this directly on our website through our Interest Form or collect a printable form to post or hand deliver when you visit the Centre. If you require any support in completing this, please call us on 01455 888257 and we will be happy to complete this on your behalf.
Step 2. Finding a match
We will read through the information you have provided and contact you to discuss further. This will be via email from cattery@leicesteranimalaid.org.uk or a call from 01455 888257 and is usually within 24 hours of receiving your form.
We will provide information about a cat’s personality and character, including likes and dislikes, how they interact with other animals, if they can live with children, activity level, current diet, veterinary information and much more.
If the match isn’t quite right, we are happy to keep looking for you and may be able to suggest other possible matches or get in touch when a potential match arrives at the Centre.
If you want us to, we can keep your details for up to 3 months to help you to find the right match. We will only ever use these details for the purpose of adoption unless you choose to sign up for updates, news and fundraising from the Centre.
Step 3. Meeting the cat
Once the match has been made, we will invite you to come and spend some time getting to know them at the Centre.
Step 4. Home check and adoption
We will check your location to ensure the area is suitable for the needs of the particular cat (e.g. main roads or train lines). This will vary depending on the background, age, medical needs, and personality of the cat.
Then we will arrange an appointment to complete the paperwork and for you to take your new cat home.
Step 5. Free ongoing support
We provide free ongoing support from our expert and experienced team by calling 01455 888257. This might be support with settling in your cat or help with behaviour years later. We are always happy to help.
