Renters' Rights Act to keep pets and families together

There are many reasons why the difficult decision to give up a beloved pet is made.  One of the hardest is when, due to circumstances outside of their control, owners have to move to rented accommodation that does not accept pets. 

The good news is that this will change on 1st May 2026 when the Renters Rights Act comes into effect, giving private rental tenants additional rights in England.  Tenants in private rented housing will now have the right to request permission to keep a pet in their home, a request landlords can no longer unreasonably refuse.
