L.A.A.'s first stars of 2025

Published 7th January 2025

It's time to meet our pawsome winners of January's Star of the Month award.  This accolade celebrates and rewards staff and volunteers who have gone that extra mile, achieved something special, or have given outstanding service.

This month’s Staff Star of the month is Phoebe Powers.  Working as part of our reception team, she meets and greets visitors with a big smile and always spreads a bit of sunshine as she goes! Phoebe is always friendly and helpful and will make sure she finds a solution to problems that come her way. She is creative and comes up with different ways to bring joy to the reception area.  Her recent Christmas display attracted a lot of attention and compliments from members of the team and visitors to the Centre. Congratulations Phoebe.

Our Volunteer Star of the month is Cattery and Coffee shop volunteer, Kath Akoslovski.  Wanting to do something worthwhile when she semi-retired, Kath, who had always had cats in her life, began volunteering in the Cattery.  She is committed to making each cat she works with feel loved, special and has a tremendous amount of patience.  The Cattery team are so grateful for the time she gives to the residents, especially to those who take more time to build-up trust and confidence.

For the past two years, Kath has been running the popular monthly Coffee Shop and has developed the menu to include vegan and gluten free treats. She loves the interaction with the customers, many are regulars and come every month.  If time allows, Kath also enjoys keeping the butterfly garden at the back of the Cattery looking lovely.  Kath has made lots of friends at L.A.A. and loves being part of the volunteer team.  Thank you to Kath for all her hard work and dedication to the Charity.
