June's Star of the Month Awards

Published 5th June 2024

We’re so excited to announce L.A.A.’s Star of the Month award winners for June.  This accolade celebrates and rewards staff and volunteers who have gone that extra mile, achieved something special or have given outstanding service.

Jim Silver is our Volunteer Star of the Month and has been volunteering with our dog walking team for five years.  He dedicates time to us every Sunday and will come in on Saturdays if we’re short of volunteers or if a dog needs a little bit of extra time.  If he has an hour to spare you can find him walking the dogs!

Jim recently became friends with Otter, our longest staying resident at the Centre, and was his first designated walker.  He spent weeks coming in on both Saturdays and Sundays taking the time to get to know Otter.  He now takes Otter out for a nice long walk every Sunday, which Otter looks forward to! Otter enjoys Jim's company so much that he gets excited when he sees Jim arrive on site and heading into reception! Because Jim spent this time getting to know Otter, it means that Otter is more confident meeting other members of the walking team and is making new friends every week.

Jim gave Sadie her forever home four years ago after getting to know her at the Centre. She was one of our long stayers, with a few challenging behaviours, but she fell in love with Jim as soon as she met him.

This month’s Staff Star of the Month goes to our Kennel Co-ordinator, Aimee Winter.  Aimee, who is a highly skilled dog behaviourist, works with the dogs on site as well as those in their forever homes, to ensure a smooth transition to their new life.

Recently, she has had to deal with some difficult situations and has stepped up to the mark each time.  Aimee dedicates so much time into creating individual training plans for each dog to improve their stay and supports staff to implement them.

She is an excellent problem solver and will always find a different approach if something isn't working. Aimee has the biggest heart and always puts the needs of the dogs first.

Congratulations to Jim and Aimee.
