May's Star of the Month

Published 10th May 2024

We’re so excited to announce L.A.A.’s Star of the Month award winners for May. This accolade celebrates and rewards staff and volunteers who have gone that extra mile, achieved something special or have given outstanding service

Pat Gould is this month’s Volunteer star of the month. Pat has been volunteering with us for 10 years. She dedicates one afternoon a week to the cattery and is incredibly committed to the care and wellbeing of the cats. Pat was the very first volunteer we had who came in to socialise and groom the cats and they benefit so much from her being here. She has so much time and patience for the cats, especially the scared ones, talking to them and helping to build their confidence. Pat is incredibly knowledgeable in many different areas, not just in cat care but general life hacks. She is always one to ask about anything!

Pat has two cats in her own family, both adopted from the centre, called Basil, a black and white male, and Lily, a tabby female, both 10 years old. Before adopting them both Pat made sure she asked them if they wanted to come and live with her to which they both replied ‘Yes please!’. She is one of our most committed volunteers, even through her own health battles she has continued to help and support us.

Jo Donald, our Charity Shop Coordinator, is our Staff star of the month this month. Jo began as a volunteer, working alongside Anne Martin before she moved into the role of Charity Shop Coordinator in July last year. There was lots for Jo to get her head around in the new position, which she is thriving in and always greets people with a smile. Working within our on-site charity shops Jo, alongside her hardworking and dedicated team of volunteers, sort through the donations that are regularly received into the charity shops, as well as picking bits out to sell on Vinted too!

The shops look slick and well organised with great stock rotation of high quality products at great prices and this, coupled with a friendly and welcoming team, has steadily increased sales in the last 10 months and welcomed many new customers.

Congratulations Jo and Pat, you're both stars!
