April's Star of the Month

We’re excited to announce L.A.A.’s Star of the Month award winners for April. This accolade celebrates and rewards staff and volunteers who have gone that extra mile, achieved something special or have given outstanding service.
This month’s Staff Star of the Month goes to Merrill Blount. With more than 20 years with L.A.A., Merrill has a long and dedicated history of support for the animals both at the Centre and with her role as an Animal Care Assistant with our Community Pet Support Scheme (CPSS).
Merrill always puts other people and pets first and is a much valued and respected member of the CPSS team. She always goes above and beyond to support our clients and their cherished pets.
She has also completed many years and, no doubt, hundreds of miles as a volunteer dog walker and is always there to lend a hand at our fundraising events. Merrill is a loving adopter to her husky Kelly and has previously been an emergency foster carer.
Carl Mason is our Volunteer Star of the Month, recognised for his time and dedication to the Charity. Carl has been a volunteer here for 25 years! He started volunteering with the dog walking team and in 2021 he began helping in the Cattery, while still walking some of our nervous dogs. Carl gives his mornings to us, Monday to Saturday, and will always offer help on Sundays too if the Cattery need a hand.
Whatever the job - cleaning or mowing the lawn, then Carl is happy to help and always makes us laugh too! The cats love Carl just as much as he loves them, especially when he gives them their morning dreamies! Carl will go out of his way to make friends with dogs that are a bit nervous, giving them the time and patience they need to make friends. The cattery team add “We just want to say thank you to Carl for being so helpful, he really is a credit to the Charity and to us and the cats for all the time he puts in”. He’s also the best cat dad to his boy, Brodie.
