TTouch – help your dog to be happier

As well as re-homing dogs and cats, LAA are also committed to helping people learn more about animal ownership. Our Tellington T Touch workshops are run each month by Jane Harvey (see the Events section for dates).

Does your dog pull on the lead? Suffer with stress or anxiety? Bark excessively? Or would you simply like to improve the bond with your canine companion? Then TTouch could be just what you need.

On the half day course, Jane will show you how to do the basic TTouch moves on your own dog, and you can practice walking in balance in two points of contact around the groundwork course.

Julia Bodsworth attended the TTouch workshop with her Jack Russell, Spot.  Spot has a tendency to pull on the lead and can be reactive to other entire males. Julia reported back after the workshop:

‘Jane demonstrated various techniques, and we all had time to practice the techniques on our own dogs. Very soon the room was full of very calm, quiet and chilled dogs. Spot even had a little snooze, which for a reactive dog in close proximity to 4 other entire males was excellent progress.

We did some outdoor 'groundwork' which is designed to help dogs think about where and how they are walking, which can help with pulling on the lead.

By far the most noticeable change was to a dog called Pippin, an extremely exuberant, happy handful of a Labrador. To start with, Pippin didn’t want to sit still and was very distracted by the other dogs. Jane fitted Pippin with a harness and head collar and showed his handler, Julie, how to do ‘ear slides’ to help calm him. By the end of the workshop Pippin was like a different dog. It just goes to show what can be achieved.’

Here's what some other TTouch participants told us about the workshops:
