Our facilities

Our site in Huncote is set in a rural location within 41⁄2 acres of ground.  We have purpose-built quality accommodation for both cats and dogs as well as lots of different areas for them to explore and have fun in. The different spaces we’ve created help our residents to feel engaged, happy and relaxed.  There is also a community garden, two charity shops and an education centre on site to welcome groups.

Dogs adventure playground

Happy dogs

We have a large enclosed paddock on site where dogs can safely enjoy a free run, play ball and generally let off steam. If it’s outdoor adventure our dogs want, we have an enclosed wooded copse which is great for hide and seek and exploring.

In 2019, our friends at Mars Petcare funded and created an amazing adventure playground for dogs with plenty of agility equipment and hidey holes to enjoy. We also have a sensory garden where dogs can experience different smells and textures. Our large enclosures with sofas, toys, ball pools and sandpits are a great place for dogs to spend some time. There are shaded areas and when it’s hot we get the paddling pools out!

Our training barn ensures dogs can enjoy fun agility out of the wind and rain and meet and play with other dogs in a safe and secure environment.  For our less adventurous residents there is also a soft play area.  The barn is a fantastic asset and we will always be grateful to Support Adoption for Pets (now the Pets at Home Foundation), Petplan Charitable Trust and the late Paul Dakin for their support.

Feline friends

Our Cattery has purpose-built cosy cat pods and all our feline friends have access to outdoor space from their pod.  We have a separate nursery area for mums-to-be and new mums with their kittens.

Thanks to a gift in a Will we were able to build an extension to the Cattery to create two self-contained socialisation and chill-out rooms.  Each one has a similar set-up to a living room, complete with sofas and cosy places to curl up.  To add to the fun, there is climbing equipment and toys.  The rooms provide a space where cats can have time out from their pods in a quiet environment and are ideal surroundings for potential new families to meet their match.

Along with our outdoor sanctuary gardens and exercise areas, the chill rooms provide a great space for staff and volunteers to spend one-to-one time with the cats and to assess their behaviour in a space like a home or garden environment.

Our Purrfect Palace is a bespoke cat sanctuary that was built in 2022 with funding from the Pets at Home Foundation. Here, cats who are used to living a more outdoorsy lifestyle can settle into Centre life at their own pace.

Charity Shops
We have two on-site charity shops staffed by our fantastic volunteers and full of bargains. You can find out more about our shops here.

Education Centre
Our Education Centre is where we hold our pet first aid workshops, Huncote Hound Club and events such as our monthly coffee shop.  We can also use this space for potential new families to meet up with our canine residents.

Paws-a-While Community Garden
In 2018 a neglected and overgrown area of the site was transformed into an oasis of peace and tranquility by teams from Mars Petcare. The garden, which has a pond, bird watching hide, gazebo and lots of different planted areas is a haven for wildlife.  During the Centre’s opening hours to the public visitors are welcome to enjoy the space.
