Millie the Rescue Dog wins Barrie's Got Talent

Leading Leicestershire hair salon magnate, Barrie Stephen, put on a stunningly successful dog talent show at Brewdog in Leicester, Sunday 14th April. A very special dog with an incredible story scooped the award for Best in Show.

More than 50 talented pooches battled it out on the 'dogwalk' to try and win awards in 6 handpicked categories, whilst simultaneously raising money for Leicester Animal Aid. The event was compered by BBC Radio Leicester's Rupal Rajani and featured a panel of all-star judges. Perhaps the most hard-fought category was the Best Rescue Dog. There was not a dry eye in the house as an appreciative audience of humans and pets heard the tales of dogs who had been given a second chance after a tough start in life.

The Best Rescue Dog, Milly went on to win Best in Show – becoming the Champion of Champions at the event. Barrie Stephen was over the moon at the success of the event in raising the profile of animal shelters and the work of therapeutic and recovery assistance dogs.

Sadly dogs like Milly are being rescued from terrible situations all of the time. This is why for me, supporting Leicester Animal Aid is so important, to make sure that all dogs get a second chance when their original owners let them down” Barrie said.

“Milly is an incredible dog and a worthy winner. Although her own recovery from neglect has taken years, she has gone on to provide help and support herself, as a therapy dog in a secure mental health unit. She is a very deserving Best in Show!”

Barrie Stephen has been an ambassador for Leicester Animal Aid since September 2018 and has already staged a number of successful fundraising events on the charity's behalf. As you may know, we do not receive any central funding and so we are dependent on donations from the public.

Big thanks to Barrie, right-hand woman Chelsea, Rupal Rajani and all the dogs and owners who generously supported us with this special and memorable event.
