Huncote Hound members turn nature detectives

Members of the Huncote Hound Club turned nature detectives on Saturday (September 9) during an action-packed activity morning.

Mini-beast huntYoungsters went on the hunt for mini-beasts around the Centre and managed to tick off quite a few invertebrates on their spotter sheets. They also couldn’t resist taking a peek at some of our four-legged residents and made a special visit to the Cattery to see who had taken-up residence in the cat pod that the Club help to sponsor.

The group talked about how they could encourage wildlife both at the centre and at home and then got crafty making pine-cone bird feeders and wild-flower seed balls. Not afraid to get their hands dirty, they soon ditched their spoons and got stuck in mixing the ingredients for their pine cone bird feeders.

The next activity morning for Huncote Hound Members – Countdown to Christmas - is on Saturday December 9. Members will help to make sure that our cats and dogs have a lovely Christmas by making tasty doggie biscuits and toys that our cats will love.  They will also be choosing a resident to make a Christmas card for and making decorations to hang round the Centre.

If you know someone who loves animals and nature and is under sixteen then why not see if they’d like to join the Huncote Hound Club?

It’s just £8 a year and as well as getting a very shiny medal and a certificate members get their very own newsletter. Members of the Club, over five-years-old, can come to special activity mornings where they will meet new friends, learn new things and most of all have lots of fun!
