A Special Story - Haze
‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’.
Haze is a 14 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier bitch who came to LAA having been found as a stray dog on the streets in October 2006.
Her owners never came forward to claim her and we were concerned that such a dear old lady would have to spend time within the kennels instead of a nice warm fireside.
Haze has limited vision due to old age and loved nothing more than to snuggle up in her soft bed and look forward with delight to meal times. We know that it is difficult to find new, loving homes for older dogs and it was sad to think that old dogs like Haze may not get a chance at a loving, retirement home.
‘Cuddles galore’
We ensured she had as many cuddles and kisses as we could give her and she loved her walks. It was clear that Haze was not at all keen on other dogs and although she was old and couldn’t see very well she certainly could move quickly if she thought there was another dog close by. Haze was a particular favourite of Aimee a Kennel Assistant that loved to take Haze out and about on her days off work. She even used to enjoy a break from the kennels at Aimee’s home. Aimee would have loved to have kept Haze but unfortunately she had two other dogs and Haze would not have been happy to have shared her time or her home with other four legged creatures.
‘Creature comforts’
There was one night in particular when Haze was quite poorly with kennel cough and Aimee took her home to keep an eye on her. Haze decided it was too much trouble to go outside for a wee and instead pottered into Aimee’s Dad’s bedroom, climbed on the bed and did a large wee! Aimee found it quite amusing although it is fair to say her Dad didn’t share the same sentiment.
Whilst at the kennels Aimee kept Haze’s bed full with soft cuddly toys which she snuggled into at night.
‘Home at last’
We did all feel that as one month went into two, into six, eight, ten and finally nearly 12 months since Haze arrived at the Centre she probably wasn’t going to ever find a new home. That was until two wonderful ladies visited one weekend to have a look at all of the dogs currently looking for new homes. They hadn’t a particular breed or size in mind but noticed the poster promoting Haze and enquired about her at reception. It was love at first sight …… they knew they had found the dog for them. Within two weeks Haze was ready to move in with her new owners and we were all delighted for her.
We are keeping our fingers crossed that it all works out well for her and her new family and we hope to see her very soon when she pops in to visit us.
