TescoCommunity Support

Local Tesco Store Manager Andy Bowley recently offered a day to volunteer his time and support for LAA. It is part of Tesco’s commitment to supporting local charities and staff and customers of the Copt Oak Court store in Narborough put forward LAA as a worthy recipient. Andy spent a full day with us on Thursday 29th November, dodging dog walkers and dogs to provide some much needed TLC by painting fencing in preparation for the winter weather. A cheque was also presented to us for £156.76 which had been raised by the customers and staff of Tesco.

The staff and Trustees of LAA would like to extend a huge thank you to Andy and his team of staff and customers at Tesco Narborough for their support.

LAA financial crisis

As most of you are no doubt aware, LAA faced a major financial crisis last year. It is with heartfelt thanks that our animal loving members and supporters responded to our appeal and helped in many different ways. The centre is run entirely on donations and receives no government funding.

Our ‘Securing our future’ campaign has got off to a fantastic start and this is so important as regular donations, no matter how large or small, ensure we can secure the longterm future of the centre. The appeal is one of many of our own fundraising efforts with various events, supermarket collections and general donations. You will know by giving just £3.00 each month that you are helping to care for dogs and cats that deserve a second chance to have a loving new home.

We were very fortunate to receive donated pet food and various cleaning products from our Essential Shopping List. Please continue to support us in this way.

It is important that we are able to provide the animals with a safe and comfortable environment with patience, love and understanding. Our staff are dedicated and committed to provide individual care and work hard with those animals that have had an unhappy start in life and may not been treated with respect or kindness. Efforts are made to build their trust and confidence and sometimes we have to start with basic training and socialisation skills.

Our Volunteer Walkers provide exercise each day for the dogs which is important to provide them with physical and mental stimulation, thus improving their quality of life whilst resident at the Centre.

2006 will be another challenging year for us and we still need your support.  This is our 50th Anniversary Year and is a time for great celebration of what has been achieved since LAA was founded in 1956 by the late Dorothea Farndon, better known as the ‘Florence Nightingale of Animals’.
