Office Team

Keely Furborough

General        Manager 

Keely joined LAA as General Manager in 2004 and is responsible for the overall running of the Centre. Keely works closely with Anne, our Chair of Trustees. 

Keely has a Foundation Degree in Business and Management, ILM Leadership & Management Level 3, BTEC National Diploma in Business Studies and a Royal Institute of Public Health Foundation Certificate in Health and Safety in the Workplace. 

Keely was a former volunteer of LAA from 1994 -1997 and also has three years experience in domestic animal rescue in Southern California (USA). 

Keely enjoys walking her dog, Chloe, a 10-year-old English Bull Terrier x Labrador and former resident of LAA, history, travel and reading.

 

Nicky Kundi

Accounts      Manager 

Nicky is responsible for our Accounts and works closely with Ian Pritchard our Treasurer. 

 

Kerry Freeman 

Admin Manager   (p/t)

Kerry joined the LAA Team in 2008 and is responsible for administration, including managing the database, microchip registrations, donations and legacy gifts. 

Kerry has 30 years experience in administration, including roles with solicitors, insurance and HR consulting companies. She has qualifications in Business Studies, Communication Skills, Shorthand (Pitman) and RSA III Typing. 

Kerry has two dogs at home, Beau, an English Springer Spaniel and former LAA resident and Poppy, a Labrador. She enjoys reading and spending time with the family and dogs. 

Kerry enjoys working with the lovely team of people (staff and volunteers) at LAA and spending time with the dogs who visit the office! 

 

Sharon Grieve

Chair's Assistant  (p/t)

Sharon supports Anne Martin, our Chair of Trustees, with the organisation and running of our on-site Charity Shop and second-hand item sales events. 

 

Sarah Moakes

CPSS Co-ordinator (p/t)

Sarah joined in May 2016 and is the first point of contact for anyone interested in the Community Pet Support Scheme and completes initial assessments with clients.

Sarah is a trained Psychotherapist and has worked with children and adults. Over the past 8 years she has undertaken comprehensive training within the fields of Social Care and Mental Health including Safeguarding and Protection of Vulnerable Adults.  In addition to this, she has also worked with a number of animal rescue organisations and undertaken training in dog and cat behaiour, positive training techniques and feline first aid. She also has Level 1 & 2 in human First Aid training.

Sarah has worked within Community Outreach projects for the last 8 years with both people and animal charities, including early intervention roles for people with both mental and physical health problems. 

Sarah has 3 cats, George, Alfie and Tony who are all rescues along with her 3 rescue rabbits, Kevin, Brian and Gladys. She has had animals all her life, the majority of which have been cats, dogs and rabbits. 

Sarah has a keen interest in the relationship between people and animals and is undertaking educational sessions in this area, including working with chickens and horses. 

Izzy Tutcher

Fundraising Manager 

Izzy joined the team in February 2016 and is responsible for Fundraising, Communications and Marketing. 

Izzy has over 10 years experience in fundraising, with a background in higher education fundraising at the universities of Coventry, Warwick and Exeter.

She has a degree in Psychology (BSc Hons) from Coventry University and received her Certificate in Professional Fundraising from Boston University in 2013.  

Izzy previously ran her own dog walking and pet sitting business and has qualifications in dog and cat first aid. She is also a qualified (human!) first aider. 

Izzy lives with Labrador x Poodle Jasper, Cocker Spaniel x Poodle Percy, Cleo the rescue cat and Snowy & Pixie the rescue mini-lop rabbits. Percy, who is a previous LAA resident, often accompanies Izzy to talks and events. 

 

Jane Walters 

Fundraising  Assistant (p/t)

Jane joined the Fundraising team in March 2017 and has 16 years experience in Communications and PR roles. 

Jane has a BA Hons Open and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Leadership and Management from Warwick University.

Bertie, a previous LAA resident and12-year-old Poodle is enjoying life with Jane's other dog, Blaize the Labrador cross, who has recently retired from being a breeding Mum for Guide Dogs. 

Jane has been a Brownie Leader for 10 years and has been a host family for Friends of Chernobyl Children for 5 years. 

Jane enjoys the variety in her role at LAA as no two days are the same and also seeing the residents going to their forever homes.

Kaya keeps our Reception, Education Centre and offices looking smart, clean and professional. 

 



Reception Team

Aimee Hermiston

Receptionist/Relief Kennel Supervisor

Aimee is the first person most people will meet on arrival at the Centre and is responsible for writing the fantastic animal profiles you will see around the Centre, on our website and on Facebook.

She joined the team in November 2006 working in the Kennels, since 2008 she has had the role of Relief Kennel Supervisor and in 2012 she began working on our Reception.

Aimee has a BSc (Hons) in Animal Management and Welfare, National Diploma in Animal Care, a Higher National Diploma in Animal Science, qualifications in human and dog first aid and has also undertaken leadership courses. 

Aimee lives with two previous LAA residents, Terriers Bean and Jack who are 11 and 13 years old. 

Aimee has a passion for animals and their welfare, and also enjoys gardening, keeping fit, walking and socialising too. 

Rebecca Fleming

Centre Co-ordinator (Maternity Leave)

Rebecca joined the staff team in 2007. She is incredibly well organised and responsible for overall day to day operational running of the Centre. 

Prior to her role as Centre Co-ordinator, Rebecca was our Kennel Co-ordinator for three and a half years and was a Kennel Assistant for six years. She also studied animal care and welfare for five years and has work experience in a veterinary practice. 

Rebecca has a degree in Animal Welfare (BSc Hons) and has completed team leader, emergency first aid at work and fire marshal courses. She also has training in dog and cat first aid. 

In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys baking, crafting, cleaning, gardening and walking her Rubble, a one-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who was previously a resident of LAA. 

Jane Sharp

Centre Co-ordinator (Maternity Cover)

Jane previously worked in our Cattery from 2012 for five years and then rejoined the team in May 2018 to cover Rebecca's maternity leave. 

Jane began her time at LAA as a volunteer in the Cattery and has a COAPE Diploma in cat health and welfare. 

Jane has three cats who are previous LAA residents, Crumble, Treacle and Merlin.

In her spare time, Jane enjoys spending time with her rescue cats, walking in the countryside, baking and reading crime and historical novels. 

Vicky Whitehill 

Kennel Co-ordinator

Vicky joined as Kennel Co-ordinator in November 2016 and is responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the Kennels. 

She has previously not worked in an animal care environment before but had always wanted to work with animals.  Vicky has received training in Microchipping (LANTRA Level 3). 

Vicky lives with previous LAA Residents Labrador Poppy, Lurcher Daisy, Kitten Pepper along with Rottweiler Ruby and Poppy the cat. 

She enjoys spending time with  her partner and animals including taking the dogs on holiday. She also enjoys gardening and helping her partner with his veg plot! 

 


Kennel and Cattery Team

Becky Vickers

Kennel & Cattery Manager 

Becky is responsible for the physical and mental wellbeing of the dogs and cats at the Centre.

Becky joined the staff team in 2014 as a Kennel Assistant and became Kennel & Cattery Manager in 2017. She had previous experience volunteering at the Dogs Trust. 

Becky received an "Excellent Pass" of 91% in her Level 4 Dog Behaviour, Psychology and Training Diploma Course and has certificates in dog, cat and human first aid. 

Becky lives with her two Akitas Kila and Marvel, and two lizards, a bearded dragon called Bertie and Betty, a Spiny-tailed monitor lizard.

In her spare time Becky enjoys baking, crafting and spending time with her dogs.

Becky loves seeing the dogs and cats progress and go to their forever homes, as well as the dedication and passion the team (staff and volunteers), put into every single day. 

 

Alex Stevenson

 

Cattery Supervisor 

 

Alex started at LAA in August 2015 as a Kennel Assistant fresh out of University and in August 2017 began his new role as Cattery Supervisor. 

Alex is studying for his MSc in Animal Welfare (graduating Sept 18) and has a BSc in Biology with Animal Behaviour. He is a canine and feline first aider and has Level 3 Microchipping training.

Alex previously volunteered with Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital (2014) and with rescue wildlife in Costa Rica (2017).

Alex lives with Jack, a 10-year-old Collie and has a passion for educating the public in good animal welfare, particularly feline behaviour. He has a passion for wildlife, conservation and travel. 

Steph    Bowen

Cattery Assistant 

Steph joined the team in December 2013 and always had cats, dogs and horses when growing up. Her first job with animals was at 14 years old at a livery yard. Since then she has worked on an event/stud yard as well as a farm working with a variety of animals.

Steph's animals include an 8-year-old German Shepherd cross, a 4-year-old Siberian Husky and a 16-year-old Hackney x Welsh pony.

Steph enjoys horse riding, walking, visiting different places with her daughter, as well as swimming with her dogs.

Hannah Hall 

Kennel Assistant/Cattery support 

Hannah joined LAA as a Kennel Assistant in March 2015. Hannah has Animal Management qualifications and is trained in Tellington TTouch. She had voluntary experience in kennel work.  

Hannah lives with her two Great Danes, Cookie and Casper. She enjoys films and baking (and sharing her bakes with the team!). 

Hannah's favourite thing about working at LAA is seeing the dogs and cats go to their forever homes, especially the longer stay residents. 

Amy Bond

Kennel Assistant

Amy is our longest standing member of staff. She did work experience with LAA in 2002 and hasn't looked back, and even met her husband here too!

Amy mostly works in kennels, but occasionally helps in the Cattery too.  She has a 1st Diploma in Animal Care from Brooksby but has learnt a huge amount in her years at LAA.

Amy loves her job and enjoys mixing and training the dogs and helping the more nervous dogs to build their confidence. She also likes the friendly atmosphere at the Centre. 

Amy enjoys family time with her husband and daughter and has a rabbit at home and helps to foster dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that need a little extra help. 

Aimee Bond 

Kennel Assistant 

Aimee joined LAA in May 2011 as a Kennel Assistant. Aimee has a National Diploma in Animal Management and has studied Animal Behaviour. Previously she has volunteered at the RSPCA.  

Aimee has two Cocker Spaniels, Poppet and George and a Cavalier x Poodle, Barney, all previous residents of LAA. 

In her spare time, she enjoys seeing friends, going to the gym and eating out. 

Aimee enjoys being part of the team, working with all types of breeds and behaviours and seeing dogs learn to trust people and knowing they are safe. 

 

Holly Barnwell 

Kennel Assistant 

Holly started at LAA in May 2011 and has a National Diploma in Animal Management and previously volunteered at Leicester Animal Rescue.

Holly adores all of the dogs who stay in her Kennels (Murphy) and loves when they come back to visit! 

Holly lives with Huskies Bert and Beau and Staffies Baby and Chance.

She enjoys spending time with her dogs and socialising with friends.

 

Ruth Cooper

Kennel Assistant 

Ruth joined the staff team in January 2017 after previously volunteering as a dog walker at the Centre for 5 years, as well as having 8 months experience with Army dogs. Ruth has a degree in Animal Management. 

Ruth lives with Meg, her 13-year-old German Shepherd and enjoys watching Netflix with her! 

Ruth loves cuddles with the dogs every day! She enjoys seeing them go to their forever homes, but she does miss them lots too. 

 

Hadria Stokes

Kennel Assistant (p/t)

Hadria joined the team as a Kennel Assistant in May 2017 and had previously volunteered at LAA and at the RSPCA.

Hadria has a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management, a Higher National Certificate in Animal Welfare & Science and a Higher National Diploma in Animal Welfare & Science. 

Hadria has two rescue dogs, a Bull Mastiff cross and Boxer cross and enjoys horse riding in her spare time. 

Hadria's favourite part of working at LAA is that the staff are highly supportive of each other and get on really well. 

 

Laura Oxbrough

Laura joined the team in August 2012 and currently looks after "Sparky" kennels. 

Laura has a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care, along with experience in boarding kennels and cattery. 

Laura likes helping dogs to enjoy their time while with us at LAA, meeting a variety of dogs and working with them and helping them to find loving homes and seeing them go to their new homes and hearing about how they are getting on in their new homes.

Laura has a 12-year-old cat called Fi, enjoys socialising with friends and family and also works as an Independent Ambassador for Tropic Skincare helping to promote cruelty-free skincare.

Nicole Weston 

 

 Kennel Assistant 

Nicole joined the team as a Kennel Assistant in May 2017. She has a Level 3 in Animal Management and a Higher National Diploma in Animal Management. 

Nicole has previous experience managing a reptile shop and lives with her Staffordshire Bull Terrier Ollie, Jack the cat, a bearded dragon called Lilly and a tarantula named Rasta. 

In her spare time, Nicole enjoys reading fantasy fiction and regularly plays board games on Friday nights with freinds. She also enjoys watching films with friends and family and taking her dog on long walks.
