Introduction to LAA

Want to know more about LAA?

Leicester & Leicestershire Animal Aid Association (LAA) is a sanctuary and rehoming centre for unwanted and stray dogs and cats with accommodation for up to 75 dogs and 35 cats.

LAA was founded in 1956 by Dorothea Farndon. Throughout its existence LAA has helped many thousands of animals, who would otherwise have faced a bleak future. Funding has always been a major problem, and the costs increase each year. Did you know that it currently costs an average of £24,000 a month to look after all the dogs and cats at Huncote? That doesn’t include all the building work. LAA receives no government funding and is entirely reliant on charity income, and grants.

We have achieved a great deal over the years by way of refurbishment and improved systems. It has been costly and there still remains much to be done.

Your Donation

Will help the charity to continue to provide a second chance for all their animals until new homes can be found for them. No animals are put to sleep unless on veterinary advice. Learn about ways of giving.

Your Support

Is needed in all kinds of ways, apart from financial. We are always looking for volunteers: dog walkers, kennel and cattery help, site and garden maintenance, helping in the shop, committee members. Whatever your skills we will be able to use them. Find out how you can help.

Membership

Join as a member, and you’ll not only receive a regular Newsletter, but you’ll be joining a very special family. For juniors we have a very active club—Huncote Hound Club. Find out more about LAA Membership.
