Garden Centre selects its ‘charities of the year’

Media release for Woodlands Nursery & Garden Centre

Garden Centre selects its ‘charities of the year’

Woodlands Charity of the YearSTAFF at a garden centre in Leicestershire have selected two organisations from the area as their ‘charities of the year’ for 2010.

Woodlands Nursery & Garden Centre looks set to host a series of fundraising activities with Coping with Cancer in Leicestershire and Rutland and Leicester Animal Aid (LAA) during the next 12 months.

Ruth Parker, Manager of Woodlands Nursery & Garden Centre, which is located on Ashby Road in Stapleton near Hinckley, explained: “We look forward to working with these charities on various fundraising schemes to maximise our support for each of them in 2010.”

Coping with Cancer is based in Leicester and helps the people of Leicestershire and Rutland cope with the practical and emotional problems that can be experienced following the diagnosis of cancer.

The charity offers a range of services, which can be tailored to an individual or family’s needs and requirements. These may be one-to-one services such as counselling or befriending, or in a group setting, through various activities and specific support groups.

Jane Hagreen, Fundraiser at Coping with Cancer in Leicestershire and Rutland, said: “We are delighted to be one of the garden centre’s chosen charities of the year for 2010 and look forward to working with the staff in the future.

“At any one time, Coping with Cancer supports around 500 cancer patients, their families, carers or those bereaved through cancer in Leicestershire and Rutland. The generous support that we receive from the local community is vital in helping us to continue this service.”

Leicester Animal Aid is a rescue and re-homing centre based in Leicester for neglected, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats. It has purpose-built animal accommodation including canine play areas, an agility course, training facilities, an education centre and a cattery.

Sarah Washington, Fundraising Manager at Leicester Animal Aid, said: “We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Ruth and the team at Woodlands Nursery & Garden Centre for their support. The money raised by the garden centre in 2010 will help the Centre continue to provide animals with the chance to find a new home.”

The animal care team at Leicester Animal Aid is fully qualified, experienced and dedicated to excellent quality of care. The charity also has the additional benefit of an external, fully qualified animal behaviourist.

Ruth added: “We applaud the work of these charities and hope we can raise as much money as possible to help support them.”
