These two dogs may not have had a ‘happy’ start in life but they certainly have the happy ending they deserve.
‘Tucker’, a West Highland White Terrier, aged approximately 2 years was found on a busy dual carriageway near Leicester on 10th March. It is believed he was deliberately abandoned by his owner(s). Poor Tucker was clearly in a terrible state, distressed and in obvious discomfort with open, weeping sores all over his body. He required immediate veterinary attention and was prescribed with a long course of antibiotics, an antibacterial shampoo and essential parasite treatment. He was a very depressed dog, listless and distant. His medical treatment continued for seven weeks to help his skin recover from the terrible neglect.
Psychologically, Tucker was traumatised by the constant discomfort but as his skin began to improve, so did his spirit. He formed a very close bond with his Kennel Mum, Rebecca, but remained shy and withdrawn with people he didn’t know. He gradually grew in confidence and as he became to feel more comfortable physically his personality began to emerge. He was a very affectionate and loving boy but still a little shy with new people. Within a few weeks he began enjoying walks and playtime and spent a few hours each day in Reception. By the middle of April he had been Reserved and went to his new home on 26th April. He will continue to need special skin care but as you can see from the picture of him in his bed in Reception, he looks amazing. We wish him and his new family and long and happy life together.

‘Baby Blue’, a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was found on 13th April in Earl Shilton. She was emaciated with every bone clearly visible. She had a broken tail, bald, patchy skin all over her body and her coat was stained yellow from urine. She was terrified and she crawled across the floor, almost as if expecting to be hit at any time. She looked like she’d recently had pups and most likely has had more than 1 litter.
She received and is still receiving extra special, rehabiliative care with our staff who have helped to improve her overall body condition and her confidence. In just 7 days she had gained 1kg in weight and it is clear that she hadn’t been fed in some time. It is apparent that she has been hit and she has scars over her face, head and body. This poor girl continues to crawl on her stomach so fearful of what may happen to her but she is slowly improving, having formed good relationships with the staff that are working with her. She has a gentle and affectionate disposition and is desperate to be loved.
She has captured the hearts of staff and although it will be a long and slow road for Baby Blue’s rehabilitation, she is making progress and we will keep you updated.
